Drone footage has revealed a mysterious Celtic Cross that had been hidden in an Irish forest for years.
The cross was first spotted by Passengers flying into the City of Derry Airport noticed the cross, after a good spell of weather made the autumn colours of the trees more visible.
The cross in the Donegal forest is more than 100m long and almost 70m wide, and is the handiwork of local man Liam Emmery.
Mr Emmery created the effect by planting two different trees.
“It’s not just cutting patterns in your back lawn, this is sizeable horticultural engineering,” horticultural expert Gareth Austin told ITV.
“Liam created that and gave the gift of that to the rest of us, and we’re going to appreciate that for the next 60 or 70 years.”
Sadly, Liam died six years ago and never got to see his work become a reality.
His wife Norma had completely forgotten about her husband’s project until local media starting knocking on her door.
She said her husband would have been satisfied with the results.
“He would been so proud. He loved things to be perfect and I think the Celtic Cross is perfect for him,” Mrs Emmery said.
